The Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless is excited to announce new and engaging training opportunities for 2019. Thanks to the Callahan Foundation, we have been able to expand our training portfolio this year. We are using this support to address broader needs in our community that have been identified by our members. We hope that you can take advantage of these opportunities. Let us educate ourselves and do our best to engage people living in crisis with the deepest dignity and respect.

Friday, March 1, 2019 10am to 3pm: LGBTQIA and Trans 101 Training.
This workshop is directed at staff of agencies (social workers, case workers and advocates) working with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community. The workshop training focuses on laying the foundation of knowledge, raising awareness of the issues that affect those that identify as part of the larger LGBT community and an understanding of the common language
Friday March 15th, 2019 10am to 3pm , Organizing For Collection Action: FULL
In this workshop, you will learn organizing basics: Why working together for collective action is important. The difference between building-based organizing and issue organizing. What needs to happen to change the balance of power. Finally, participants will learn how to lay the foundation for an ongoing network of organizers.
Wednesday April 24th, 2019 from 9:30am to 3:30am: Reentry: What to do about Denials to Housing based on Criminal Backgrounds SIGN UP NOW
Participants will learn how to appeal denials of clients’ subsidized housing applications based upon their clients’ criminal background, using fair housing law to improve client outcomes and access to housing. Practice exercises, guidance, and templates will enhance participants’ skills. Information on additional community resources will also be provided.
Friday, May 3rd, 2019 10am to 3pm : Understanding Racism and Managing Unconscious Bias : SIGN UP NOW!
This workshop is directed at staff of agencies (social workers, case workers and advocates) working with very low income and homeless populations. The workshop is designed to expose people to their unconscious biases, provide tools to adjust automatic patterns of thinking, and ultimately eliminate discriminatory behaviors that can affect client care and safety.
Friday, June 7th, 2019 10am to 3pm and Friday, December 6th, 2019 10am to 3pm: Housing 101 SIGN UP NOW FOR JUNE 7th, 2019
This workshop is directed at staff of agencies (social workers, case workers and advocates) working with very low income and homeless populations. The workshop training focuses on all aspects of obtaining and maintaining housing and shelter for their clients. The training includes landlord/tenant and fair housing laws which can help clients maintain housing and take appropriate steps should there be a fair housing complaint or discrimination or inappropriate landlord behavior.
Friday August 2nd 2019 10am to 3pm: Youth Homelessness and Housing
This workshop is directed at staff of agencies (social workers, case workers and advocates) working with Young adult and Youth homeless populations. The workshop training focuses on the unique way to engage and work with Young Adults in crisis, understand brain development and obtaining and maintaining housing and shelter for their youth and Young adults.
